Minutes of the Committee Meeting held on 10th April 2018, 6pm at Llanelli Town Hall
Present; Philip Thomas, Alison Jenkins, David Bannister, Philip Warlow, Margaret Gimblett, John Harvey, Anastasia Griffiths, Rob James, John Jenkins and Fred Hughes.
1. Apologies from; David Darkin, Pam Edmunds and Liz Purcell.
2. Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted, proposed by Fred and seconded by Margaret.
3.Matters arising from these minutes;
It was previously agreed that our Open Meeting would be held on 21st April, however this date now clashes with the Scarlets semi final rugby match in Dublin. Several committee members are attending the match and it will be live on tv that afternoon. Therefore proposed that we try and re-arrange this for a date in May. Secretary to contact Morrigan for possible dates and times.
Philip has made further enquiries into the cost of purchasing banners. Rather than them being bi-lingual, which can be confusing to read it was agreed that we should have one in Welsh and one in English. Philip to proceed with this.
4. Reports from Officers;
Treasurers report was circulated and accepted proposed by John and seconded by David.
Nominations are still needed for when Philip steps down from this role.
The leader of CCC, Cllr Emlyn Dole and his wife have accepted the invitation to the Music for the Parc Evening. Also the Chairman and Consort of CCC, Cllr Irfon and Mrs Jean Jones have accepted and forwarded a £24 cheque. We have received letters from Mr John Lloyd and Mr Alun Bowen-Thomas with their renewal Associate Memberships, both congratulating us on our good works in the Parc. An invitation received from the Town Mayor, Cllr Jeff Edmunds to an informal reception in the Mayors Parlour on 5th April.
5. Gardening Volunteers;
David, Lyn and Alison attended a talk on 17th March, hosted by Nia Griffith in conjunction with the W.I. The Tree Project detailed how you could record and create a record of trees in the area and was very interesting.
David attended a meeting with representatives from CCC where it was agreed that the council would meet the cost of replanting thebeds in front of the Museum building and also replace some of the conifers in the front bed that have not done well. Hopefully they will also fund the cost of compost to renew the beds.
The Music Evening has been advertised on local radio stations and in the Herald. Susanne has obtained some good raffle prizes. Volunteers for the evening are needed, and on the night we will have Margaret, Fred and Anastasia in charge of the raffle. Alison, David and John on the door, and Susanne managing the performers.
Agreed that as all the performers are giving their time free of charge we should provide a gift of a bottle of wine each – 13 needed for this. We have a bottle of whisky to present to Huw Edwards.
August family Day
A separate meeting is urgently needed for this event. The field is in a very poor condition and seriously waterlogged. We will need to re-think what sort of entertainment can be provided and keep the field clear. Vehicles became stuck last year and this winter has been far wetter. Date for meeting to be arranged.
Dealt with at item 4.
8. Any other business;
It was agreed that the committee is low in numbers, and there is space to co-opt another person this year. Eldon has expressed an interest in returning to the committee and it was unanimously agreed that he be included.
Parc Howard Collaboration Group;
Philip, Margaret and David attended a joint meeting between the Town and County Councils. It is hoped that there will be monthly meetings into the next year. The Parc Howard Association and the Friends of the Museum are included in discussions. CCC have allocated £500,000 per annum and the Town Council £100,000. A total budget therefore of £600,000 per annum for the running of the Parc and Museum. There will be 4 Town Councillors and 4 County Councillors, 6 of these will be Llanelli based however CCC will have any deciding vote. Repair works on the Museum building will undoubtedly take a large percentage of the funding. The repairs to the Bandstand and the Café are on the agenda. Wedding receptions have not been mentioned at this point. The planning application for the car park is still live. The planning department have asked for more information and detail. A decision has not been made.
It was agreed that it is very positive that we are being included in these talks. The next meeting is on the 10th May.
Meeting closed at 7.20
