Bowling Green Hedge

04_PH_Nov_2009The photo on the left shows bowlers on the upper Green during the summer of 2009. Notice the height of the hedge.

Parc Howard bowling green hedgeJohn the Park Manager has had a good deal of experience of the upkeep of bowling Greens and is concerned the upper Green is suffering from water saturation.

This is with the intention of allowing more ventilation across the Greens and reducing the number of insects that create problems with the grass. Since the lowering the hedge, the upper Green has already dried out considerably. It is their intention to allow the hedge to 'green up' next year and not allow it to grow more than about 6 inches than it is now.

Here's looking forward to seeing all in flower again in 2010!
